Today in Guatemala, we were honored by the NGO Estrella de Mar with its Partner of the Year award for 2017. T2TGlobal has supported the two math teachers at its Colegio Impacto girls’ leadership academy in Panajachel, Sololá, with coaching in pedagogy. At the school’s annual graduation ceremony, Estrella de Mar recognized the “aligned philosophy and a shared commitment to vision” between the two organizations.

Two T2TGlobal staff members attended the festivities—Country Director Manuela Cea-Poblete and Impact and Education Coordinator Lucía Dávila. Here are the remarks given by Manuela in accepting the award, the English translation first, followed by the original Spanish version.

English Translation

On behalf of the whole team at Teachers2Teachers Global we are honored to receive this award from Starfish recognizing the impact we are achieving together. Our team in the US would have loved to be here and all send their congratulations to the Starfish team and Impact School students for everything they have achieved this year.

Teachers2Teachers Global’s work in Guatemala, providing teacher training in STEM education, has grown immensely since we began in 2015. We have been fortunate to work with hundreds of teachers from across the country on increasing content knowledge, pedagogical teaching strategies and leadership networks. We have seen teachers gain confidence in their abilities and in those of their students, and raise their expectations as to what can be achieved.

That we are receiving an award today focused on partnerships is extremely significant to us as our aim is always to work in partnership, with other organizations, schools, communities and, most importantly, teachers.

We are thrilled that the work that Teachers2Teachers Global is doing together with Starfish is serving as an example of what can be achieved when organizations focus on collaboration, communication and a shared final goal which in our case would be to improve the quality of education accessible to all, especially amazing women in STEM.

We have been extremely fortunate to work with the whole team at Starfish, especially Travis, Alix, Oscar and our math superstars Celestina and Yolanda. They have always approached our partnership with open minds and an eagerness to work together to find the best fit in terms of what Teachers2Teachers Global offers and what will best serve their community and students.

We constantly learn so much from all the incredible individuals at Starfish and are so exciting to see what 2018 has in store for us all.

De parte de todo el equipo de Teachers2Teachers Global nos sentimos honrados de recibir este premio por parte de Estrella de Mar, reconociendo el impacto que estamos logrando juntos.

A nuestro equipo en los Estados Unidos le hubiera encantado estar aquí y todos envían sus felicitaciones al equipo de Estrella de Mar y a los estudiantes de Colegio Impacto por todo lo que han logrado este año.

El trabajo de Teachers2Teachers Global en Guatemala, proporcionando oportunidades de desarrollo profesional para docente en educación STEM (mejor describir STEM como educación en ciencia, tecnología, matemática e ingeniería), ha crecido bastante desde que comenzamos nuestros proyectos en 2015. Hemos tenido la fortuna de trabajar con cientos de profesores en todo el país, desarrollando conocimiento de contenido, estrategias de enseñanza pedagógicas y redes de liderazgo. Hemos visto a maestros ganar confianza en sus habilidades, las de sus alumnos y elevar sus expectativas en cuanto a lo que ellos pueden lograr.

Que estemos recibiendo un premio hoy centrado en la importancia de alianzas es extremadamente relevante para nosotros, ya que nuestro objetivo siempre es trabajar en colaboración con otras organizaciones, escuelas, comunidades y lo más importante, con los docentes.

Estamos encantados que el trabajo que Teachers2Teachers Global está realizando junto con Estrella de Mar sirva como un ejemplo de lo que se puede lograr cuando las organizaciones se enfocan en la colaboración, la comunicación y un objetivo final compartido que en nuestro caso sería mejorar la calidad de la educación accesible para todos, especialmente niñas y mujeres super estrellas del STEM.

Hemos sido muy afortunados de trabajar con todo el equipo de Starfish, especialmente Travis, Alix, Oscar y nuestras super estrellas matemáticas Celestine y Yolanda. Siempre se han acercado a nuestra alianza con mentes abiertas y un afán de trabajar juntos para encontrar las mejores opciones en términos de lo que Teachers2Teachers Global ofrece y lo que servirá mejor a su comunidad y estudiantes.

Constantemente aprendemos mucho de todas las personas increíbles de Starfish y estamos muy emocionados al ver lo que 2018 tiene reservado para todos nosotros.
